## What does a data entry clerk do in Indonesia?

A data entry clerk in Indonesia enters, checks and tidies data in systems: online-shop orders, stock in the company system, patient or customer records, shipping documents, survey results or digitised archives. The national computer operation standard (Decree 56/2018) includes units on entering data, ensuring data validity and protecting user information. Statistics Indonesia (BPS) also recruits data processing partners to process census and survey data. Genuine online data entry work from home exists, but typing jobs that ask for a deposit are scams.

## What do you need to become a data entry clerk in Indonesia?

Data entry ads in Indonesia usually ask for an SMA or SMK certificate, fast and accurate typing, spreadsheet skills and willingness to work to daily targets. It is not a licensed profession, and many vacancies accept fresh graduates. Because you handle other people's data, Law 27/2022 Article 36 requires personal data controllers to keep it confidential, so it is normal for a genuine company to ask you to follow written confidentiality rules.

## What does a typical data entry clerk job description look like?

A clear data entry ad in Indonesia names the company, the system used, the workplace or remote-work terms, targets and working hours, the contract type and the pay. We wrote the description below ourselves from common advertising patterns. It is not a vacancy from any company. Check any ad that only promises easy typing work from home for high pay, with no company name, before you reply.

## How much does a data entry clerk earn in Indonesia?

A data entry clerk who is an employee, including on a contract or outsourced, is entitled to at least the provincial or regency/city minimum wage: PP 36/2021 Article 23(3) bans paying below the minimum wage, which applies to service of under one year (Article 24(1)), except in micro and small businesses, which set wages by agreement (Article 36). ## Which education routes lead to data entry work in Indonesia?

The closest routes are an office administration or IT track at a vocational school (SMK), computer courses at a government training centre (BLK or BPVP), and the Ministry of Manpower's free vocational training on Skillhub. The computer operation standard (Decree 56/2018) sets out the skills needed, and work competency certification is done through certification bodies (LSP) licensed by BNSP. Fast, error-free typing and tidy spreadsheets usually count most in selection.

## Are there genuine work-from-home data entry jobs in Indonesia?

Yes, but far fewer than the ads suggest. Genuine remote data entry comes from a company you can check, uses a written contract, gives you access to the company's work systems and never asks you for money. Glints TapLoker said in May 2025 that work-from-home jobs with simple tasks such as admin or data entry are often used for scams, and OJK's Satgas PASTI describes a repeated-deposit pattern that ends with the scammer disappearing.

## Are data entry or admin jobs abroad safe?

Many are not. The Foreign Ministry brought home 1,203 Indonesians from online-scam centres in Myanmar between 20 February and 16 July 2026; they had been offered high-paying jobs, usually in Thailand, and then taken across illegally. The government has said Indonesia has no placement cooperation with Cambodia, Myanmar or Thailand. Genuine overseas vacancies appear in the SISKOP2MI official job list and use a licensed placement company.

## What are the employment status and rights of a data entry clerk?

Many data entry clerks are on fixed-term contracts (PKWT) or employed by outsourcing companies. PP 35/2021 Article 12 bans probation in a PKWT, and Article 18 makes the outsourcing company responsible for the pay and protection of outsourced workers under a written contract. Law 24/2011 Article 15 requires BPJS registration. Contract and outsourcing rules may change once the new Labour Protection Law takes effect.

## How do you check a data entry vacancy before applying?

You can check a genuine data entry vacancy in Indonesia in a few minutes. Do this before you send any data:

1. Search for the company in AHU and on its official careers page. The same vacancy should appear there too.
2. Make sure the recruiter uses a company e-mail domain, not a free e-mail address or an anonymous chat account.
3. Refuse to pay anything: registration, training, account, task deposit or commission withdrawal fees.
4. Do not install APK files sent by chat, and never share an OTP code with anyone.
5. Hand over your ID card and bank details only after a written employment contract, for payroll and BPJS.
6. An admin job abroad must appear in SISKOP2MI. If it does not, do not go.

**Why they ask:** Most administrative work uses spreadsheets, word processing and e-mail every day.

**How to answer:** Name the software and the real tasks you did with it, such as data summaries, letters or reports. Be honest about your level and offer a short test if useful.

**How to answer:** Mention the tools you use, the hours you agree to, how you report daily results and the response time you can commit to.

- **Tell me about yourself.** Answer in about a minute: where you are now in work or study, two experiences that matter for this job, then why you applied. Personal matters such as family status are not needed.
- **Why did you apply to this company?** Mention one or two real things you learned from the company's official website, such as its business or services, and link them to your skills.
- **Why are you interested in this role?** Pick two tasks from the job advert, describe similar things you have done, and say which part you most want to grow in.
- **What are your strengths?** Name one or two strengths and give short proof: the situation, what you did and the result.
- **What is your weakness?** Choose a real weakness that is not central to the job, then explain what you are doing to improve it.
- **Tell me about a problem at work or school that you solved.** Use the STAR pattern: Situation, Task, Action, Result. Focus on what you yourself did and what you learned.
- **How do you work in a team, including when people disagree?** Give a real example of listening, explaining your view politely and finding a solution everyone accepted.
- **How do you handle pressure or tight deadlines?** Explain how you set priorities, such as a task list or checking with your supervisor, and give one example of the outcome.
- **Where do you see yourself in two or three years?** Mention the skills you want to master and the responsibility you hope to take on, without promising things you cannot know.
- **What salary do you expect?** First research the pay range for the role and the local minimum wage where you would work. Give a range, then ask whether the figure is gross or net and which allowances apply.

## Which job scams target data entry applicants in Indonesia?

Data entry vacancies are among those scammers use most: SEEK fraud-detection data reported by CNA Indonesia on 20 November 2025 names online-shop admin, e-commerce admin and data entry as the main targets. The pattern: typing work from home, an interview by chat, a small commission at first, then a demand for a deposit to unlock the next task. Variations ask for a registration fee, send an APK file or ask for your ID card and a selfie.

Safe data entry vacancies appear on companies' official careers pages, the Ministry of Manpower's Karirhub portal, vocational school and campus job fairs, and with outsourcing companies you can check in AHU. A data entry clerk focuses on entering and checking large amounts of data. An administrative assistant handles many office tasks, such as letters, filing, schedules and reports. SEEK data reported by CNA Indonesia shows that scammers often use all three kinds of admin vacancies, so check the company before applying.

**Can I trust captcha typing or online typing jobs?**

We have not found any official source describing a legitimate mass typing-from-home programme. Whatever it is called, an offer that asks for a registration fee, a deposit to unlock tasks or the purchase of an account matches the scam signs described by the Ministry of Manpower and OJK's Satgas PASTI task force. Do not pay, do not send personal data, and report the ad.

**Can a recruiter ask for a photo of my ID card and a selfie before the interview?**

That is a warning sign. The Ministry of Manpower lists requests for an ID card, a bank account number or a selfie holding your ID 'for verification' as a sign of a fake vacancy, because the data can be misused for online loans or other crimes. Law 27/2022 Article 16 requires personal data processing to be limited, specific, lawful and transparent. Hand over documents only after a contract with a company you have checked.

**I was sent an APK file with a task list. What should I do?**

Do not install it. OJK and the Ministry of Communication warn that fake APK files can take personal data and read SMS messages containing OTP codes, so bank accounts can be drained. Install apps only from official app stores. If you already installed it, a bank advises switching off the internet, deleting the app, changing important passwords and contacting your bank through its official channels.
