## How much do AC technicians earn, and how should you assess an offer?

There is not enough role-specific evidence to publish a defensible AC technician salary range. Request written details of employment status, pay, schedules, call-outs, travel and tool provision. Distinguish an employee offer from an independent service order. A service-contract value or turnover is not automatically personal take-home pay because operating costs also need to be considered.

## How should you check a technician certification offer?

Ask for the LSP name, BNSP licence, scheme scope, level and assessment method. Article 6 of Permen LHK P.73/2019 requires assessment through a BNSP-licensed LSP registered with the ministry under the regulation. Verify those requirements through the institution’s own channels instead of relying on a logo on a brochure. A competency certificate follows a competent assessment result; reject promises of certification without assessment.

## What safety issues should you discuss before accepting work?

Cooling systems involve energy sources, pressure and refrigerants with different properties, including flammable types. Indonesia’s competency standard treats occupational and environmental safety as fundamental. Ask about energy-isolation procedures, suitable equipment and supervision for tasks you have not mastered. Do not attempt hazardous work from a short video or accept tasks beyond your competence without a responsible supervisor.

## Frequently asked questions

**Do AC technicians need competency certification in Indonesia?**

Yes, Article 4(1) of Permen LHK P.73/2019 requires it for refrigeration and air-conditioning technicians at levels 2 to 5. The certificate follows assessment by an LSP meeting Article 6 requirements, including a BNSP licence. Level 1 helpers are different: the annex describes simple tasks performed under a supervisor’s oversight and responsibility.

**What are the entry requirements for a level 2 competency test?**

Alongside the general conditions, Article 7(3)(a) of Permen LHK P.73/2019 specifies completed level 2 competency-based training and/or at least one year of documented residential air-conditioning maintenance experience. Ask the LSP to explain the scheme, evidence and assessment process. Other levels have different requirements; helping a technician does not automatically qualify you for every level.

**Can you start as an AC technician’s helper?**

The annex to Permen LHK P.73/2019 recognises a level 1 helper or assistant. This involves preparation and simple routine tasks under a supervisor’s oversight and responsibility.
