A live commerce host runs live sales streams on e-commerce or social media platforms: demonstrating products, explaining features and promotions, and answering viewers' questions in real time. Hosts work with a team that prepares the products, script and equipment. A session can last several hours, so the work is usually organised in shifts.

## How much do live selling hosts earn per hour?

## Which education routes lead to live commerce hosting?

Live hosting needs no particular degree; many hosts come from vocational schools (SMK) in marketing, multimedia, fashion or beauty. Speaking and selling skills can be trained through vocational courses on the Ministry of Manpower's Skillhub, which its official site describes as free for participants. Avoid paid host courses that promise a job after you finish, and check the course provider before paying.

## Which rights do live commerce hosts have?

A host can be an employee, a part-timer or a freelance partner, and the rights differ. Employees must be registered with BPJS by their employer (Law 24/2011 Article 15), and Government Regulation 35/2021 requires overtime pay for work beyond the applicable hours. Freelance partners must register themselves under Article 16 of Law 24/2011. The Ministry of Manpower says the new Worker Protection Law passed by the House covers flexible work.

**Legal status:** the Labour Protection Law was approved by the DPR and the Government on 6 October 2026 but has not been promulgated and its text is not public. Until it takes effect, the rules on this page apply.

## What does a live commerce career path look like?

Live streaming hosts can grow into lead hosts for big brands, live stream coordinators or producers, and live commerce managers who run schedules, teams and targets. Some build their own accounts as content creators or influencers, become affiliate marketers paid on sales commission, or move into clipping streams into short videos. A tidy record of stream results and a clean reputation help you move to bigger brands.

## How does live shopping hosting differ from live entertainment hosting (chat, dance, games)?

Live shopping hosts sell products on a shop or brand account: demonstrating items, explaining promotions and answering buyers. Live entertainment hosts fill streams with chat, dancing or games, and their income often depends on viewers' virtual gifts shared with an agency. For both, read the agency contract: your share, streaming-hour targets and content rules. Refuse requests for sexual content; in July 2024 the police criminal investigation agency (Bareskrim) exposed a network recruiting hosts for pornographic streams.

- **What are your strengths?** Name one or two strengths and give short proof: the situation, what you did and the result.
- **What is your weakness?** Choose a real weakness that is not central to the job, then explain what you are doing to improve it.
- **Tell me about a problem at work or school that you solved.** Use the STAR pattern: Situation, Task, Action, Result. Focus on what you yourself did and what you learned.
- **How do you work in a team, including when people disagree?** Give a real example of listening, explaining your view politely and finding a solution everyone accepted.
- **How do you handle pressure or tight deadlines?** Explain how you set priorities, such as a task list or checking with your supervisor, and give one example of the outcome.
- **Where do you see yourself in two or three years?** Mention the skills you want to master and the responsibility you hope to take on, without promising things you cannot know.
- **What salary do you expect?** First research the pay range for the role and the local minimum wage where you would work. Give a range, then ask whether the figure is gross or net and which allowances apply.
- **When can you start?** Give a realistic date. If you are still employed, mention the notice period in your current contract so you do not break it.
- **Do you have any questions for us?** Ask about the contract type, working hours, base pay and allowances, the next selection step and when results are announced. Ask for the offer in writing.

## Which job scams target live commerce hosts?

Live host vacancies are a high-risk category. In July 2024, Bareskrim Polri exposed an online gambling network that recruited hosts for pornographic live streams, and the hosts were named as suspects. Other warning signs are training or costume fees, recruiters who only talk by chat, and offers to host in Cambodia while travelling as a tourist.
