## What does a network and fibre optic technician do in Indonesia?

Network technicians install, maintain and repair the networks that carry internet and data, from fibre optic cable on poles to the WiFi router in a customer's home. Field technicians splice fibre, measure signal loss and fix faults, while network administrators configure routers and switches and network engineers design the network. The national Fibre Optic Installation standard (Decree 101/2018) includes units on laying cable, fusion splicing and OTDR testing.

## What do you need to work as a network technician in Indonesia?

Network technician is not a licensed profession, but adverts usually ask for an SMK or D3 in networks or telecommunications, basic TCP/IP knowledge and readiness for field work. For work on poles or towers, Manpower Regulation 9/2016 Article 31 requires employers to provide workers who are competent and authorised in safety, shown by a competency certificate and a K3 licence valid for five years.

Network technician adverts in Indonesia usually state the type of work (customer installation, maintenance, splicing or network administration), the work area, whether you need your own vehicle, the equipment used and preferred certifications. ## How much does a network technician earn in Indonesia?

KarirAman does not show a network technician pay figure yet because no data meets our standard. The floor is clear: Government Regulation 36/2021 Articles 23 and 24 bar employers from paying below the minimum wage for workers with less than one year of service. Field technicians should ask in writing about vehicle, phone credit or per-installation incentives, and which deductions apply.

## Which education routes lead to network technician work?

The usual route is a computer network or telecommunications SMK, a D3 in telecommunications or informatics, or an S1 for network engineers. There are national standards for Computer Networks (Decree 321/2016) and Fibre Optic Installation (Decree 101/2018). BNSP's directory lists a licensed certification body with Junior Network Administrator and Installation and Activation Technician schemes. Government training is also offered through Komdigi's Digital Talent Scholarship.

## Do you need a MikroTik certificate or a CCNA?

Vendor certificates are not required by law, but network administrator adverts often ask for them. MTCNA is MikroTik's entry-level certification and, according to MikroTik, its certificates are valid for three years and can be checked in the official certificate search. Cisco says the CCNA is earned through exam 200-301 and is valid for three years. Train with certified trainers listed on the vendor's website.

## What safety rules apply to work on poles and towers in Indonesia?

Manpower Regulation 9/2016 covers safety in work at height. Employers must plan the work, write procedures, provide protective equipment free of charge (Article 21) and use only competent, licensed workers (Articles 31 to 33). Without collective fall protection, workers must use at least a full body harness and a work restraint line (Article 25). Training follows the national standard for work at height (Decree 393/2020).

## What is the difference between a network technician, a network engineer and IT support?

Network technicians install and repair infrastructure such as cables, fibre, routers and WiFi. Network engineers design the network's topology, addressing and security, matching units in the national Computer Network standard (Decree 321/2016) such as designing topology and designing network security. IT support serves computer and application users. Many people start as field technicians or IT support and move up to network engineer.

## How do you apply for network technician jobs safely?

1. Find the same vacancy on the company's official careers site or on Karirhub.
2. Check the company name on AHU. A genuine installation partner still has a registered company and a written employment contract.
3. Refuse requests for training, uniform, ID card, motorbike deposit or tool money before a contract.
4. Ask for an employment agreement that states your status, pay, incentives, deductions, and who provides tools and protective equipment.
5. Do not travel abroad for IT work without an official SISKOP2MI vacancy; in July 2026 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned that many victims of online scam syndicates left outside official procedures after being lured by high pay.

FTTH technician adverts usually list a network or telecommunications vocational school (SMK) diploma as the education requirement. To prove your skills there is the national Fibre Optic Installation standard (Decree 101/2018) and certification schemes such as Installation and Activation Technician at BNSP-licensed certification bodies.
