Retail store crew (pramuniaga) serve shoppers face to face and make sure products are always on the shelves. A typical day includes greeting customers, helping them find products, restocking and tidying shelves, checking expiry dates and keeping the shop clean. In minimarkets and supermarkets, store crew are often trained to cover the till at busy times.

## What do you need to work as store crew in Indonesia?

Store crew work is not a licensed profession, so no licence is required. Vacancies usually ask for a senior high school (SMA/SMK) certificate, good health and willingness to work shifts. Age, appearance or marital-status requirements unrelated to the work are not normal: Minister of Manpower Circular M/6/HK.04/V/2025 bars discrimination on any basis in recruitment, and age requirements are allowed only where the nature of the job genuinely affects ability.

## What does a typical store crew job description look like?

Minimarket store crew usually rotate through several sections: the till, receiving goods and stocking shelves, and keeping the shop clean. In clothing, shoe or electronics stores, shop assistants spend more time serving and explaining products in one section. Ads usually look for friendly, careful SMA/SMK graduates ready to work shifts. Match the company named in the ad with its official careers site before you send any personal data.

## Which education routes lead to store crew work?

The usual route into store crew work is to finish SMA or SMK and learn in the shop through company training. The national competency standard is the Modern Retail SKKNI (Kepmenaker 16/2018), which includes units such as receiving merchandise and helping with stock counts. Competency tests are run by certification bodies (LSP) licensed by BNSP. Ministry of Manpower vocational training on Skillhub is also available; on 7 October 2026 the site said trainees pay nothing.

## Which work rights should store crew check?

Many store crew are hired on fixed-term contracts (PKWT). Under PP 35/2021, a PKWT may not include probation (Article 12), fixed-term workers are owed compensation pay when the contract ends (Article 15), and work beyond normal hours must be paid as overtime (Article 27). Under Law 24/2011 Article 15, your employer must also register you with BPJS social security.

Consistent store crew can usually move up to senior cashier, shift leader, assistant store manager and then store manager, following each company's own ladder. **Why they ask:** The interviewer wants to see how you open a conversation and read people's needs.

- **How do you work in a team, including when people disagree?** Give a real example of listening, explaining your view politely and finding a solution everyone accepted.
- **How do you handle pressure or tight deadlines?** Explain how you set priorities, such as a task list or checking with your supervisor, and give one example of the outcome.
- **Where do you see yourself in two or three years?** Mention the skills you want to master and the responsibility you hope to take on, without promising things you cannot know.
- **What salary do you expect?** First research the pay range for the role and the local minimum wage where you would work. Give a range, then ask whether the figure is gross or net and which allowances apply.
