Products that telemarketers in Indonesia often sell include credit cards, loans, insurance and telecom packages.

## What do you need to become a telemarketer in Indonesia?

Telemarketing ads in Indonesia usually ask for an SMA, SMK or D3 qualification, a clear voice, computer skills and readiness to work to targets. If the product is a financial service, OJK rules also apply: POJK 22/2023 Article 39 requires a prospective customer's consent before offers through personal communication channels, and the caller must state the company's name and the purpose of the call. For insurance, POJK 8/2024 Article 50 requires remote marketing to give the company's identity, product information and the policy terms.

Telemarketing ads in Indonesia usually name the product, the call or sales targets, the shift pattern and the office or contact-centre location. ## How much does a telemarketer earn in Indonesia?

Telemarketers usually receive a base wage plus incentives from sales or approved applications. PP 36/2021 Article 23 bans paying below the minimum wage, and where pay consists of a base wage plus non-fixed allowances, the base wage must be at least the minimum wage, which is the 2026 minimum wage (UMK) of your regency or city. Commission-only pay with no base wage does not meet that rule for employees. We do not show a telemarketer-specific figure yet, because no data meets our standard.

## Which education routes lead to telemarketing work?

Telemarketing can start from SMA, SMK or a D3 diploma, followed by on-the-job training. The marketing competency standard (SKKNI, Kepmenaker 124/2022) has a unit specifically on managing sales by telephone (telesales), which can be assessed at an LSP licensed by BNSP. Telemarketers usually work in an office or contact centre on a headset for the whole shift. PP 35/2021 Article 21 sets working time at 40 hours a week: seven hours a day on a six-day week or eight hours a day on a five-day week. Law 24/2011 Article 15 requires employers to register you with BPJS social security. These rules may change once the new Labour Protection Law approved by parliament in October 2026 takes effect.

## What is the career path for a telemarketer?

Telemarketers who consistently hit targets can move up to team leader, quality assurance reviewing call recordings or contact-centre supervisor. Calling experience also helps you move into customer service, field sales, account executive, insurance agent, debt collection or account officer roles at banks and finance companies. Compliant call recordings and tidy sales records are the strongest evidence of your performance.

## Can a telemarketer work abroad safely?

A genuine phone or online operator vacancy abroad must still go through official placement channels, with a licensed placement company (P3MI) listed on SISKOP2MI and a vacancy in SISKOP2MI's official job list. The government has said Indonesia has no placement cooperation with Cambodia, Myanmar or Thailand. Refuse and report high-paying phone or chat job offers to those countries.

Applying safely for a telemarketing job in Indonesia means confirming the company and its products are legitimate and refusing offers abroad that bypass official channels. Check the following before you accept an offer.

1. Look for the same vacancy on the official careers page of the product owner or contact-centre company.

3. Ask about the call script and privacy rules; a compliant company has written procedures.
4. Refuse training fees, equipment fees or requests to hand over your passport.

**Why they ask:** The interviewer wants to see how you open a conversation and read people's needs.

**How to answer:** Explain that you ask about their needs first, explain the benefits that matter to them and accept a no politely.

- **How do you work in a team, including when people disagree?** Give a real example of listening, explaining your view politely and finding a solution everyone accepted.
- **How do you handle pressure or tight deadlines?** Explain how you set priorities, such as a task list or checking with your supervisor, and give one example of the outcome.
- **Where do you see yourself in two or three years?** Mention the skills you want to master and the responsibility you hope to take on, without promising things you cannot know.
- **What salary do you expect?** First research the pay range for the role and the local minimum wage where you would work. Give a range, then ask whether the figure is gross or net and which allowances apply.
- **When can you start?** Give a realistic date. If you are still employed, mention the notice period in your current contract so you do not break it.

## Which job scams target telemarketer applicants?

There are two big risks. First, telemarketing jobs that make you promote sham investments or unlicensed financial products. Second, high-paying jobs abroad that turn out to be forced work for online-scam syndicates; on 20 July 2026 the Foreign Ministry warned that many victims were offered work in Thailand and then taken to Myawaddy, Myanmar. Check the company's licence and address before accepting an offer.

## Where can you find safe telemarketer vacancies?

Look for telemarketing vacancies on the official careers pages of banks, insurers, telecom operators or contact-centre companies, and on the Ministry of Manpower's Karirhub portal. For financial products, make sure the product owner is supervised by OJK. POJK 22/2023 Article 39 allows offers through personal communication channels only after the prospective customer has consented, and only Monday to Saturday, excluding public holidays, from 08.00 to 18.00 local time, unless the customer agrees or asks otherwise.
