### For any job

1. Have you been asked to pay for anything, such as registration, training, a uniform, a medical check, a psychological test, safety gear, lodging, an ID card, tickets, a visa or a deposit, before starting work? **Why it matters, sources and next step** Indonesia's Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) lists requests for money for administration, training or uniforms as a sign of a fake vacancy, and says official companies do not ask applicants for any fee. East Jakarta's labour office flags medical and psychological test fees, and UU 1/1970 Article 14 makes safety gear free. Government placement services may not charge fees (UU 13/2003 Article 38). For work abroad the order is: UU 18/2017 Article 30(1) says migrant workers cannot be charged placement costs; Permen P2MI 17/2025 puts placement costs on the employer, and the worker may be charged only costs written and itemised in the Perjanjian Penempatan (placement agreement); any request for money outside that document, in cash or to a personal account, is a red flag. **What to do:** Do not transfer anything. Ask about the fee through the company's official contacts that you look up yourself, not the number in the ad. 2. Does everything, including the interview, happen only on WhatsApp or Telegram, with no office address or company e-mail you can check? **Why it matters, sources and next step** Kemnaker lists instant chat-only interviews without formal confirmation as a sign of a fake vacancy, and OJK advises not to trust vacancies that arrive by private message straight away. A WhatsApp number alone does not mean a scam, because many small businesses recruit on WhatsApp. The danger is the combination: chat only, no clear address, then a request for money or data. **What to do:** Look up the company's official website or account yourself and ask whether the vacancy exists. 3. Does the recruiter use a free e-mail address, such as gmail or yahoo, instead of the company's own domain? **Why it matters, sources and next step** Kemnaker lists free e-mail and website domains as a sign of a fake vacancy, because the company has no official digital identity that can be verified. Some legitimate small businesses also use free e-mail, so check other official sources before you decide. **What to do:** Find the company's official website and compare the e-mail domain. 4. Is the pay far above the local minimum wage (UMK) even though the requirements are light or no experience is needed? **Why it matters, sources and next step** Kemnaker lists pay that is unrealistic for vague or entry-level work as a sign of a fake vacancy. For overseas offers, Kemnaker also flags very high pay with easy requirements. This rule only counts when the ad states entry-level requirements and a pay figure far above the local UMK. **What to do:** Compare it with the city's UMK on the Minimum Wage page. 5. Have you been promised that you are hired straight away, guaranteed to pass without a test or interview, or guaranteed a job placement? **Why it matters, sources and next step** Kemnaker lists non-transparent recruitment, such as instant chat interviews without formal confirmation, as a sign of a fake vacancy. The civil service agency BKN states there is no way to become a CPNS or PPPK without the open selection, and promises of passing in exchange for money are fraud. 6. Is the work about liking, following, subscribing, rating, reviewing, testing apps or watching videos, and are you then asked to top up a balance or deposit to unlock the next task? **Why it matters, sources and next step** OJK's illegal-finance task force (Satgas PASTI) describes this part-time job pattern: the victim is asked to like and subscribe, receives a small first payment, is invited into a chat group, then is asked to deposit money for further missions with the promise of getting it back plus a reward. Deposits keep being requested until the scammer disappears. In 2026 Satgas PASTI also stopped a drama-watching task app that took deposits. **What to do:** Stop now and do not add another deposit to 'withdraw' your balance. 7. Have you been asked to send a photo of your KTP or family card, a selfie holding your ID, your bank account number, an OTP code, a PIN or a password before any formal interview, or to lend your bank account or ATM card? **Why it matters, sources and next step** Kemnaker lists requests for sensitive data such as a KTP, bank account number or a selfie with ID 'for verification' as a sign of a fake vacancy, because the data can be misused for online loans or other crimes. OJK reminds people never to share OTP codes, PINs or passwords with anyone. PPATK asks people never to lend or sell their bank accounts. **What to do:** Do not send it. 8. Have you been asked to hand over your original diploma, passport or other original documents as a guarantee? **Why it matters, sources and next step** Ministerial circular SE Menaker M/5/HK.04.00/V/2025 bars employers from requiring or holding workers' diplomas and personal documents, including passports and BPKB, as an employment guarantee, with a narrow exception for employer-funded training under a written agreement. Kemnaker also lists a ban on withholding diplomas and personal documents in the new Labour Protection Law passed by the DPR in October 2026. A passport held by an agent abroad is one of the signs of trafficking. **What to do:** Hand over copies, not originals. Are you being pushed to decide or pay the same day, or asked to keep the offer secret from your family? **Why it matters, sources and next step** Kemnaker describes very fast replies and pressure to interview at once as a way to make applicants panic. OJK recommends S.T.O.P: notice what is odd, pause, observe and check, and protect your data and money. **What to do:** Pause and talk the offer over with someone you trust. 10. Have you been asked to download or install an APK file, for example an 'application form' or 'interview invitation', sent by chat? **Why it matters, sources and next step** OJK and the communications ministry explain that a fake APK file, once installed, can request SMS access so the scammer can read OTP codes and get into the victim's mobile banking. Both advise installing apps only from official app stores. **What to do:** Do not open or install the file. ### For jobs in Indonesia

1. Does the 'job' have no base pay, promise unlimited income, and ask you to buy a package or pay a joining fee? **Why it matters, sources and next step** Commission-based work can be legitimate, but paying to join is a red flag. Kemnaker lists requests for money as a sign of a fake vacancy, and OJK notes scams that use multi-level marketing patterns, fake testimonials and time pressure. **What to do:** Ask for a written contract that states the base pay or how commission is calculated. 2. Does the ad require an age limit without a job-related reason, an attractive appearance, or being unmarried? **Why it matters, sources and next step** Legal note, not a scam signal: ministerial circular SE Menaker M/6/HK.04/V/2025 prohibits discrimination in recruitment, including age limits, unless the nature of the job genuinely requires it. **What to do:** You can still apply. 3. Is someone offering an 'inside track' (titipan or orang dalam) or a 'special route' so you are sure to get into a factory, a company or a government agency, for money upfront or a cut of your wages? **Why it matters, sources and next step** Bekasi metropolitan police warned about fake job distributors who promise to get applicants into industrial-zone companies for money, and advise checking any distributor with the local labour office (Disnaker). A Serang regency task force on illegal levies is investigating payments demanded in factory recruitment. Kemnaker says the new Labour Protection Law strengthens the duty to report vacancies to prevent brokering. BKN says civil service selection is free, and a judge who sold a 'special route' into CPNS was dismissed. **What to do:** Do not pay a broker. ### For job offers abroad

1. Does the overseas job offer use a tourist, visit, umrah or pilgrimage visa, or send you to Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos or Thailand through an individual recruiter? **Why it matters, sources and next step** UU 18/2017 Article 69 bans individuals from placing migrant workers, and Article 13 requires a work visa and an employment contract. Kemnaker lists working on a visit, tourist or pilgrimage visa as a sign of overseas job fraud. KP2MI says Cambodia is not an official placement destination, and the foreign ministry (Kemlu) reports victims offered jobs in Thailand who were taken to online-scam compounds in Myanmar. **What to do:** Do not travel. Check the agency on the SISKOP2MI licensed-agency list and look for its official job order. ## What are its limits?

The tool only looks for patterns common in scams. "No common warning signs found" does not mean a vacancy is safe. Always check the employer through official channels.

## Does the job checker use AI?

No. The checker uses fixed rules we wrote from official guidance, each with its source, and they run on your device. The text you paste is never sent to a server or to any AI service, and the same text always gives the same result.
