How KarirAman presents salary and minimum wage data
Where KarirAman's salary, UMP and UMK figures come from, what they mean, what their limits are, and when we deliberately leave a figure out.
Summary
- Minimum wages come from governors' decrees, with the decree number, effective date and the exact figure, never rounded.
- Average wages from the BPS labour force survey (Sakernas) are a group reference, not the pay for one specific job.
- Salary ranges from KarirAman's verified vacancies appear only when the sample is large enough.
- KarirAman does not estimate salaries and never presents projections as facts.

Where do KarirAman's salary figures come from?
KarirAman's salary figures come from five kinds of data, and each one is clearly labelled:
- Minimum wages (UMP and UMK) from governors' decrees. Always shown, as the lower limit.
- Average wages from the BPS labour force survey (Sakernas), labelled "group reference, not specific to this career".
- Official pay scales, such as the civil-service (PNS or PPPK) pay tables, only for jobs that have one.
- Salary ranges from KarirAman's verified vacancies, only when the sample has at least 30 vacancies. KarirAman does not list vacancies yet, so this row does not appear yet.
- A range from third-party job ads, at most one per job, labelled as an advertised range and not an official average. It appears only as text and never in data downloads or structured data.
What does the BPS average wage mean?
The BPS Sakernas figure is the average (mean, not median) monthly wage received by employees. It does not cover the self-employed, casual workers or unpaid family workers. BPS publishes it by group, such as province, industry, sex or education level, not by occupation. That is why KarirAman never uses a BPS figure as the main salary for a job.
The Sakernas release we use today is the BPS official statistics release of 5 August 2026, covering May 2026. Figures on the site are updated after each new release.
How do we present the UMP and UMK?
Provincial (UMP) and district or city (UMK) minimum wages come from governors' decrees. We record the exact figure in the decree, including any sen, without rounding, together with the decree number, the date it was signed when known, the date it takes effect and its legal basis. Law 6/2023, which amended Law 13/2003, requires governors to set the UMP and allows them to set a UMK in Article 88C, and Article 88E says the minimum wage applies to workers with less than one year of service and that employers may not pay below it. The implementing rules are in Government Regulation (PP) 36/2021 as amended, most recently by PP 49/2025.
A district or city whose UMK we have not matched with the decree or another official source is marked "Not verified yet". A figure we found through the news is labelled "official statement via media" until we can open the decree. DKI Jakarta sets only a UMP, so no UMK is shown.
When do we leave a salary figure out?
KarirAman deliberately does not show a figure when:
- the sample of verified vacancies is smaller than 30; the row reads "Not enough data yet";
- its source is unverified;
- it is a projection or estimate, such as a forecast of next year's UMK before the decree is signed;
- it mixes interns, part-time or day workers into the monthly pay of full-time workers.
We also never rank cities or regions on samples that are too small.
Are KarirAman's figures gross or net pay?
Every figure is labelled according to its source: gross, net, or not stated by the source. Under PP 36/2021 Article 23, the minimum wage is the lowest monthly wage. To estimate net pay from gross pay, use the take-home pay calculator once its rules have been verified.
What about pay abroad?
For destination countries, KarirAman shows the country's official pay floor in its own currency first, then an approximate rupiah amount with the exchange-rate date. Monthly figures we calculate from an hourly minimum are labelled "a calculation, not an offered wage". National averages are labelled "national average, not a floor". Where minimum wages are set by region, such as by prefecture in Japan, each region appears with its own effective date.
How can this data be reused?
KarirAman's data compilations are licensed CC BY 4.0: you may copy and adapt them for any purpose as long as you credit the source and link the licence. Please also name the original publisher, such as BPS or the provincial government. Ranges from third-party job ads are never included in data downloads. The available downloads are listed on the open data page.
Frequently asked questions
Why does a job's salary on KarirAman say 'Not enough data yet'?
Because there is no role-level data that meets our rules yet, such as a range from verified vacancies with a large enough sample, or an official pay scale. We still show the minimum wage and the BPS group average as references, and we never fill the gap with estimates.
Is the BPS average the salary I will be paid?
No. The BPS Sakernas figure is the average across many employees in a group, such as one province or one education level. Your pay depends on the region, your experience, the company and your employment contract. The minimum wage of the area where you work is the lower limit.
Can I reuse KarirAman's minimum wage data?
Yes. KarirAman's data compilations are licensed CC BY 4.0. Credit KarirAman and the original publisher, which is the provincial government that issued the governor's decree, and give the date of the data.
