What should you check before applying to a company in Indonesia?

There are five checks. First, search the legal entity on AHU Online and make sure the name matches exactly. Second, match the official website, e-mail domain and phone number, then call the number from the official website, not the ad. Third, for work abroad, check the agency on the SISKOP2MI P3MI list. Fourth, for state-owned companies (BUMN) and the civil service (CPNS, PPPK), use only their official channels. Fifth, for financial companies, ask OJK's contact centre 157 about their licence. Official companies do not charge applicants any fee, according to Kemnaker.

  1. Search the legal entity name in the ad on AHU Online. The name must match exactly; watch out for look-alike names.Direktorat Jenderal AHU, Kementerian Hukum
  2. Do not rely on a business number (NIB) printed in the ad. NIBs are issued through OSS, but we found no public NIB search on oss.go.id.Kementerian Investasi dan Hilirisasi/BKPM (OSS)
  3. Match the official website and e-mail domain, then call the number listed on the official website, not the one in the ad.Kompas TV (official statement via media)Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (Sekretariat Satgas PASTI)
  4. For work abroad, make sure the agency is listed as an active P3MI on SISKOP2MI, has an official job order, and is not on the sanction list.KP2MI/BP2MI (SISKOP2MI)Kementerian Hukum RI (peraturan.go.id)
  5. For special sectors: an OJK licence for finance and insurance firms, SSCASN for CPNS and PPPK, and the careers sites listed at bumn.go.id for state-owned companies.Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (Sekretariat Satgas PASTI)Badan Kepegawaian NegaraBadan Pengaturan BUMN

How do you use the AHU company search?

AHU Online is run by the Ministry of Law (formerly the Ministry of Law and Human Rights). Open ahu.go.id, choose the Perseroan (PT) profile search, type the company name exactly as written in the ad and complete the reCAPTCHA. Make sure the result matches exactly, because scammers may use similar names. For a CV, firm or civil partnership, use the 'Badan Usaha Non Badan Hukum' menu. According to the AHU page, the company data available is PT data under UU 40/2007.

Can you check a company's business number (NIB) on OSS?

OSS is the government system that issues the Nomor Induk Berusaha (NIB), the official identity for running a business. When we checked oss.go.id on 7 October 2026, we found no public search by NIB or company name; the NIB checks described in various guides happen after the business owner logs into its own account. So an NIB number in an ad does not prove the vacancy is real. Use AHU and the company's official contacts instead.

How do you check whether a company's e-mail, link or HR phone number is real?

Find the company's official website and social media accounts yourself, not through links in the ad. Kemnaker lists free e-mail and website domains as a sign of a fake vacancy, so compare the recruiter's e-mail domain with the official website's domain. Then call the number listed on the official site and ask whether the vacancy and the recruiter are real. OJK also advises not to trust vacancies that arrive by private message straight away.

How do you check an overseas recruitment agency (P3MI)?

Open the P3MI list at siskop2mi.bp2mi.go.id and search for the company's name. Its detail page shows its status, such as Aktif, its address and branch offices. Also look at the list of agencies under administrative sanction on SISKOP2MI, and look for its official job orders under Lowongan. UU 18/2017 Article 51 requires migrant-worker placement companies to hold a SIP3MI licence from the Minister, and Article 69 bans individuals from placing migrant workers.

How do you check state-owned company and civil service vacancies?

CPNS and PPPK selection runs through BKN's SSCASN portal, and BKN says its stages are announced openly and carry no fee. For state-owned companies, open the BUMN careers directory at bumn.go.id, which lists the joint SOE recruitment and links to each company's official careers site. FHCI says registration for the joint recruitment happens only on its official portal.

How do you check a finance, lending or insurance company?

For sales or agent jobs in finance, lending or insurance, make sure the company is licensed and supervised by OJK. OJK's booklet recommends the 2L test, Legal and Logical, and lists contact centre 157 by phone or official WhatsApp for questions. The Kontak OJK portal at kontak157.ojk.go.id also has a 'Daftar PUJK' menu, a list of financial service businesses.

How do you check a job distributor or labour-supply 'yayasan'?

UU 13/2003 Article 37 requires private placement agencies to be licensed. The Bekasi metropolitan police advise job seekers to ask the local labour office (Disnaker) whether a distributor or 'yayasan' is really registered before signing up, after dozens of people were deceived by distributors promising to get them into industrial-zone companies. Do not pay a distributor that cannot show its licence.

How do you check an office address or interview location?

Kemnaker lists an unclear office address as a sign of a fake vacancy, and in August 2026 the East Jakarta labour office named interviews at unclear places as a common pattern. Compare the address in the invitation with the company's official website and the AHU result, then confirm the appointment through the head-office number you look up yourself. Do not go to a private house, apartment or hotel without official confirmation, and take someone with you.

A recruiter asks you to transfer money to an account. How do you check it?

Do not transfer. Kemnaker lists requests for money in recruitment as a sign of a fake vacancy, so you do not need to check the account any further to decide. If money has already gone, call your bank and report the receiving account to IASC at iasc.ojk.go.id straight away, because the report is forwarded to the bank holding that account to delay its transactions.

Employer checklist

  • The legal entity name matches the AHU Online result exactly.
  • The recruiter's e-mail domain matches the company's official website.
  • The vacancy is confirmed through a number or e-mail listed on the official website.
  • The office address is clear and can be checked.
  • An overseas agency is listed as an active P3MI and is not on the sanction list.
  • CPNS and PPPK vacancies only through SSCASN; SOE vacancies through careers sites listed at bumn.go.id.
  • Financial companies are licensed and supervised by OJK.
  • Nobody asks for money during the application.

Where are the official checking tools?

All links below come from KarirAman's register of official channels and are rechecked every month. To understand what an NIB is and how businesses obtain one, see Panduan Warga guide to NIB on OSS.

What should you do if the checks look doubtful?

For a recruiter's e-mail, follow how to check a recruiter's e-mail before you reply or open any attachment.

Do not send money, bank details, OTP codes or original documents. Paste the ad into the job checker to see its warning signs, then choose the right reporting channel on Where to report. Legitimate companies do not charge you to apply.

Frequently asked questions

If a company is registered on AHU, is the vacancy real?

Not necessarily. AHU only shows that a legal entity is registered, and scammers often use real company names. Always confirm the vacancy through official contacts you look up yourself, as OJK advises.

What if the company name in the ad differs slightly from the AHU result?

Treat it as a red flag. The legal entity name must match exactly, because similar names can be used to borrow a real company's reputation. Also compare the address, website and e-mail domain before going further.

An overseas recruiter claims to be licensed but is not on SISKOP2MI. What does that mean?

Migrant-worker placement companies must hold a written SIP3MI licence from the Minister (UU 18/2017 Article 51), and individuals may not place migrant workers (Article 69). If the agency is not on the SISKOP2MI P3MI list, do not hand over money or documents, and ask KP2MI.
