What is SMK Go Global?

SMK Go Global is a government programme run by KP2MI, the Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, to give vocational-school (SMK) graduates and the public the skills overseas labour markets need, so they can work abroad safely, procedurally and competently. KP2MI's official FAQ (17 September 2026) calls it a presidential directive programme that is demand-driven: it starts from destination countries' labour needs and prepares participants to match them.

Who can join SMK Go Global and what are the requirements?

According to KP2MI's FAQ, participants are SMK graduates, members of the public, candidates already recruited by placement companies (P3MI) and alumni of the 2025 migrant-worker capacity programme. The minimum age is 18. Documents include the family card (KK), ID card (KTP), national health insurance (JKN) card, statements of commitment and interest in working abroad, permission from a parent, guardian or spouse, your latest ijazah and evidence of skills, language or experience.

Which countries and jobs does SMK Go Global target?

KP2MI's FAQ lists the mapped main destinations as Japan, South Korea, Germany, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, the wider European region, Turkey, Taiwan and the Maldives. Priority jobs include caregiver, welder, hospitality, nurse and truck driver, plus other fields as labour markets require. Participants can state their preferences, but placement still follows demand, qualifications and selection results.

What does the programme cover, and what are the placement-cost rules?

KP2MI's FAQ says participants in the government-run training are not charged; training, certification, accommodation and meals are covered. For placement costs, the rules apply in this order: Law 18/2017 Article 30(1) says migrant workers cannot be charged placement costs; KP2MI Regulation 17/2025 makes the employer bear the placement-cost components, and the worker may be charged only costs written and itemised in the Placement Agreement; any request for money outside that document, in cash or to a personal account, is a red flag.

What are the stages of SMK Go Global?

The simple flow in KP2MI's FAQ is: demand mapping, registration, selection, training, certification, job matching, documents, departure and protection. Registering does not mean you are accepted, because there is verification and selection through written tests, interviews or other methods. Training is face to face and covers technical skills, work safety (K3), a foreign language, work culture, and understanding work contracts and self-protection. Before leaving, participants attend the pre-departure orientation (OPP).

Does passing the training guarantee you a job abroad?

No. KP2MI's FAQ says a competence certificate is not automatic, because it depends on passing a competence test by a professional certification body. A certificate does not guarantee a job either; work still depends on employers' needs, qualifications, selection results, destination requirements and job matching. Participants also do not have to accept every job offer and should understand the position, country, employer and contract first.

Where do you register and get official SMK Go Global information?

SMK Go Global registration information is published through official KP2MI/BP2MI channels, the regional BP3MI offices (Balai Pelayanan Pelindungan Pekerja Migran Indonesia) and official government media. Registration follows officially announced schedules, quotas and locations, in batches. Overseas job orders can be followed on SISKOP2MI. If in doubt, visit the nearest BP3MI office and ask in person.

What are the signs of a scam using SMK Go Global's name?

KP2MI's FAQ tells the public to register only through official channels, not to pay anyone promising a pass or a departure, to check the legality of institutions and placement companies, to make sure the vacancy is clear, to ask for official documents and to keep personal documents safe. Also be wary of offers without the right work visa, because prospective migrant workers must hold a visa that matches their job. Report suspected charges to KP2MI/BP2MI, BP3MI, an Indonesian embassy or SP4N-LAPOR.

Frequently asked questions

May participants go abroad through the independent (perseorangan) route after the programme?

Yes. KP2MI's FAQ says independent placement is a recognised scheme, but prospective migrant workers using it must still register with the government and meet every requirement. Make sure the employer is clearly identified and the offer is legal.

How do you check a placement company that offers participants a job?

Check the list of placement companies (P3MI) on SISKOP2MI and official government channels, as the SMK Go Global FAQ advises. Also make sure the job order is recorded on SISKOP2MI. KP2MI recommends verifying the vacancy and employer with KP2MI or BP3MI before starting the placement process.
