Indonesia Job Scam Report 2026: official data on fake job offers and their tactics

KarirAman's annual report on job scams in Indonesia in 2026: official OJK, foreign ministry and KP2MI data, a tactic taxonomy, methodology and how to cite it.

Summary

  • This report uses only official statistics from OJK (IASC), the foreign ministry (Kemlu) and KP2MI, each with its period and source.
  • According to the Satgas PASTI secretariat, job offer fraud was the fourth most reported scam type at IASC up to May 2026.
  • IASC report counts are cumulative since IASC began taking reports on 22 November 2024, not counts for one year.
  • KarirAman's tactic taxonomy counts the scam pages we publish, not the number of cases or victims.
  • This report does not use any text checked in Cek Loker, because Cek Loker stores and sends nothing.

What does the Indonesia Job Scam Report 2026 cover?

The Indonesia Job Scam Report 2026 brings official data on job scams into one place for job seekers, their families, journalists, researchers and organisations that want to cite it. KarirAman is a free career portal for finding work safely in Indonesia: role guides, official minimum wages, legal routes to work abroad and a fake-job checker. It contains official statistics from OJK through the Indonesia Anti-Scam Centre (IASC), the foreign ministry and its embassies, and KP2MI, plus KarirAman's tactic taxonomy. Every figure states its period and source, and the How to cite section gives a stable citation.

How big was job fraud in Indonesia in 2026?

Official data show it from three sides. On the financial side, OJK's IASC has recorded hundreds of thousands of scam reports since 22 November 2024, and according to the Satgas PASTI secretariat job offer fraud was the fourth most reported type up to May 2026, after online shopping, impersonation and investment. On the migrant work side, KP2MI reported thousands of fake job ads taken down and thousands of prospective migrant workers stopped from leaving non-procedurally. On the victims abroad side, the foreign ministry and the embassy in Phnom Penh recorded thousands of Indonesians who reported or were brought home from online scam compounds. The exact figures are in the data boxes above.

Which job scam tactics were most common in 2026?

The only official ranking we found comes from IASC: job offer fraud was fourth among reports up to May 2026. IASC does not break job fraud down further. So KarirAman does not rank job scam tactics. The taxonomy table in this report counts the tactic pages we publish by severity and by the channels scammers use, not by number of cases. The signs of each tactic and how to check them are on its own page.

Where does the report's data come from, and how is it put together?

This report uses only statistics from official bodies: OJK (IASC and Satgas PASTI), the foreign ministry and Indonesian missions, and KP2MI. Figures we read directly in official documents are marked as primary sources, and official statements we found through the media are labelled as official statements via media. We do not add up figures from different sources, do not estimate unpublished figures and do not use anything users check in Cek Loker. The tactic taxonomy is computed automatically from KarirAman's published tactic pages.

What are the limits of the data in this report?

IASC reports are not the number of victims, and many victims never report. Each figure covers a different period, and some are cumulative. Figures reported through the media should be checked against official sources when they become available. Figures whose period ended long ago carry a data-year badge. The tactic taxonomy reflects the coverage of KarirAman's guides, not how often a tactic happens. Dated national police data are not yet included.

How should this report be cited?

Use the text in the How to cite box on this page: the report title, the page address, the update date and the licence. The report's data can be downloaded as CSV and JSON under a CC BY 4.0 licence. When you cite a figure, also name the agency it comes from, such as OJK, the foreign ministry or KP2MI, and its period, because KarirAman only compiles figures they publish.

What can readers do with this report?

Job scam data is most useful when it prevents new victims. If you are holding a job offer, compare it with the signs of a fake job or check the text in Check a job, which runs on your device and stores nothing. If you have already sent money, follow the steps in already paid a scammer and report to IASC quickly. Figures updated as official sources release new data are on job scam statistics. Frequently asked questions

Are the figures in this report the number of job scam victims?

Not all of them. IASC figures are reports received, and one victim may report more than once or not at all. Foreign ministry and embassy figures are Indonesians who reported to or were brought home from online scam compounds. KP2MI figures are fake ads taken down and prospective migrant workers stopped from leaving. Read the label and period of each figure.

Why do the figures cover different periods?

Each agency releases data at different times and with different coverage, and we do not combine figures or estimate anything in between. Every figure box shows its period, source and date. Figures whose period ended long ago carry a data-year badge so they are not read as current.

Does this report include police data?

Not yet. As of 8 October 2026 we had not found an official Polri release with a dated national figure specifically for job scams. If such a release is published, its figure will be added with its source and period.
