How the KarirAman job checker works

The job checker looks for common warning signs in a job ad on your device. Here are its rules, how the result is worked out, its sources and its limits.

Summary

  • The text you paste is checked on your device and never sent anywhere.
  • The job checker matches the ad against warning-sign rules, and each rule has an official source.
  • There are four result levels, from 'High risk' to 'No common warning signs found yet'. The checker never says a vacancy is safe.
  • The checker cannot confirm that a company exists. For that, look the company up on AHU and the agency (P3MI) on SISKOP2MI.

What does the job checker do?

The job checker reads the text of a job ad or recruiter message that you paste, then shows the warning signs it finds. Each sign comes with the matching words, why the sign matters, its official source and what to do next, such as how to check a company or how to report. If you cannot paste any text, for example because the offer came by phone, a yes or no checklist applies the same rules.

Is the text I paste sent to KarirAman?

No. The text you paste is checked on your device and never sent anywhere. The rules are loaded with the page, so your browser does not need to contact a server to assess the ad. KarirAman does not store the text and does not record it in visitor statistics. The details are in our privacy policy.

Which warning signs does it look for?

The job checker's rules are built from official warnings by Indonesia's Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker), the OJK Satgas PASTI booklet and the relevant regulations. The signs include:

  • requests for money for registration, training, uniforms, medical checks, tickets, visas or a deposit;
  • recruitment only through WhatsApp or Telegram, and recruiters using free e-mail addresses;
  • pay far above what is normal for a job that needs no experience;
  • promises of a job with no interview or test;
  • paid tasks such as liking, subscribing or reviewing products that ask you to top up a balance;
  • requests for a photo of your ID card (KTP), bank account number, one-time code (OTP) or password before any interview;
  • offers to work abroad on a tourist visa or without a licensed placement agency (P3MI), and routes that are currently closed;
  • holding diplomas, passports or original documents;
  • pressure to pay straight away or to keep the offer secret from your family;
  • signs of human trafficking, such as an agent holding your passport, a holding house before departure, or wages cut to repay a "debt", in line with the definition in Law 21/2007 Article 1.

Two legal notes are also shown but never change the result: discriminatory criteria such as an age limit with no objective reason (Ministry of Manpower circular SE Menaker M/6/HK.04/V/2025), and a probation period in a fixed-term contract, which PP 35/2021 Article 12 makes void.

How is the result worked out?

Every rule has a weight from 1 to 3 according to how serious the sign is. The final result is one of four levels:

  1. High risk: at least one sign with weight 3, such as a request for money or for a one-time code.
  2. Be careful: no weight-3 sign, but the weights of the signs found add up to 3 or more.
  3. Some signs to check: signs with weight 1 or 2 were found and their weights add up to less than 3.
  4. No common warning signs found yet. Keep checking.: no warning-sign rule matched at all.

The job checker never says a vacancy is "safe". To avoid false alarms, the money rule is ignored when nearby words say the employer pays, for example "ticket and visa costs are paid by the employer". That exception only counts within the same part of the sentence: words such as "but" ("tapi", "namun") start a new part, so "free training, but transfer first" is still flagged.

The pay rule flags ads for jobs needing no experience whose pay is more than one and a half times the verified district minimum wage (UMK) of that city. When several places are named, the highest floor is used. The provincial minimum wage (UMP) is used only where it is the place's own floor: in DKI Jakarta, which sets no UMK, or in a district recorded as following the UMP. Elsewhere it is not used, because it would make lawful pay in industrial cities look suspicious. When the city is unknown, the benchmark is twice the BPS average wage for the education level the ad names, or for general senior secondary school (SMA) when it names none. Daily pay is converted to monthly pay by multiplying by 21 and hourly pay by multiplying by 126, following the formulas in Government Regulation 36/2021 Article 17 and Article 16(4). The pay rule is not used for jobs abroad, and when you mark an ad as a job abroad, the rules for jobs in Indonesia are skipped.

What are the job checker's limits?

The job checker only recognises patterns that are already in its rules. It cannot confirm that a company exists, cannot read images or screenshots, and can be fooled by new wording. On the other hand, genuine vacancies are sometimes flagged, for example because a small business uses WhatsApp. Treat the result as a starting point, then check the company name and contact its official channels yourself. If you have already transferred money, contact your bank and the official channels straight away.

Where do the rules come from, and when are they updated?

Every rule stores its source, and that source appears in the result. The main sources include Kemnaker's signs of fake vacancies, the OJK Satgas PASTI booklet published in August 2026, Law 18/2017 on the protection of migrant workers and Law 21/2007 on combating human trafficking. The rules are reviewed every three months and straight away after a new official warning. Rules whose sources are not verified are not used.

Frequently asked questions

Does the job checker keep the ad I paste?

No. The check runs in your browser. The text you paste is not sent to KarirAman's servers, not stored and not recorded in visitor statistics. If you want us to see the ad, send it through the report form.

If the result says no common warning signs were found, is the job safe?

Not necessarily. It means the checker did not find any warning pattern it knows. Scammers keep changing their wording. Still check the company name, find its official contacts yourself, and never pay any fee to apply.

Does the job checker use AI?

No. The job checker uses written rules, each based on an official warning, and runs them in your browser. No AI model reads your ad, and the result always names the rules that matched and why.

Why does a genuine vacancy sometimes get flagged?

Because some signs are also used by legitimate employers, such as a WhatsApp number for a small business. That is why such signs carry a lower weight, and every result explains its reasons so you can judge for yourself.
