A hajj officer (PPIH) is appointed or designated by the Minister of Hajj and Umrah to guide, serve and protect regular hajj pilgrims in Indonesia and in Saudi Arabia (Law 8/2019 as amended by Law 14/2025, Article 1 point 9). Do hajj officers get paid, and who sets the amount?

PPIH operating costs are charged to the state budget (Article 22(6) of Law 8/2019 as amended by Law 14/2025), but KarirAman has not found a current official table of hajj officer honoraria or daily allowances. What education do you need to become a hajj officer?

No single degree leads to hajj officer work; the formation decides. Worship guides need a worship guide certificate and hajj experience, health officers need health training that fits the post, with a valid STR and SIP for doctors, nurses and pharmacy staff, and Hajj Media Center posts asked for a journalist competency certificate. Candidates who pass the computer test and medical check attend PPIH education and training (diklat) before their duty.

  • The interview is held in a hotel room, a private house or another closed place that is not an office, or the location keeps changing. An invitation to stay overnight, or any sexual demand, as a condition for being hired or for renewing a contract is also a warning sign.

Do you have to be a civil servant to become an Indonesian hajj officer?

No. Article 43 of Ministry of Hajj and Umrah Regulation 3/2025 says PPIH members come from the ministry, other related ministries or agencies, and the public. The public element covers Islamic community organisations, Islamic educational institutions and professionals. Each formation's specific requirements, including any agency of origin, follow that year's selection announcement.

Does attending the hajj officer training guarantee appointment?

No. In January 2026 the ministry stressed that the PPIH Saudi Arabia training (diklat) is part of the selection, and attending it does not automatically make someone a hajj officer.
