How should you use this interview question bank?

The bank holds general questions for any job and questions for specific fields, each with the reason interviewers ask it and how to answer. The KarirAman team wrote every example from common interview patterns; none are questions from a particular company. Read the question, answer it out loud, then open the guidance to compare. Prepare two or three true stories that you can use for many questions.

How do you answer interview questions with the STAR method?

The STAR method keeps answers short and backed by evidence: Situation (the context), Task (your responsibility), Action (what you yourself did) and Result (what changed, ideally with figures you can stand behind). Use it for questions such as tell me about a problem you solved or a time you worked under pressure. An answer of one to two minutes is usually enough.

Which personal questions do you not have to answer?

Ministry of Manpower Circular M/6/HK.04/V/2025 of 28 May 2025 bars employers from discriminating on any basis during recruitment, and allows age limits only where the nature of the job genuinely affects ability. Law 27/2022 Article 4(3) classes religion and marital status as personal data. If you are asked something personal that has nothing to do with the job, you may answer briefly and politely and steer back to your skills.

What are the signs of a fake interview invitation or process?

The Ministry of Manpower lists an instant chat interview without formal confirmation, very fast replies with pressure to be interviewed at once, requests for money for administration, training or uniforms, and requests for a KTP photo, bank account number or a selfie holding your ID as signs of a fake job. Being asked to pay for a test, a medical check, tickets or a hotel through an appointed agent is also suspicious.

What if the interview is in a hotel, a private house or only on Telegram?

A genuine interview usually takes place at the office, an official venue or an online platform, with a written invitation from a company-domain e-mail address. On 12 August 2026 the head of the East Jakarta manpower office warned about recruiters who claim to be large or state-owned companies but hold interviews in small shophouses, rented houses or ever-changing locations. Police in Bali investigated a 2026 report from a job seeker who was invited to an interview at a hotel, then held while his family was asked for money. Ask for a public place, tell someone close to you, and leave if you feel unsafe.

Can disabled applicants ask for adjustments during selection?

Law 8/2016 Article 11 guarantees disabled people the right to work without discrimination and to reasonable accommodation at work, and Circular M/6/HK.04/V/2025 confirms that the ban on discrimination in recruitment applies equally to disabled workers. You do not have to mention a disability on your CV, but you may tell the recruiter before the interview if you need adjustments, such as extra time, a sign language interpreter or an accessible location.

What should you ask for once you have been offered the job?

Ask for a written offer or contract stating the job title, pay, working hours, contract type and start date before you resign from your current job. Circular M/5/HK.04.00/V/2025 bars employers from requiring or holding original diplomas and personal documents as a guarantee for work, except for education or training paid for by the employer under a written employment agreement. Show original documents for checking, then take them home.

What are the warning signs in a job interview, and what are the sources?

  • The interview happens only by WhatsApp or Telegram chat with no formal invitation, or you are pushed to be interviewed on the spot.

What to do: Ask for a written invitation from a company-domain e-mail address, then match the contact with the official website you look up yourself.

  • You are asked to pay for a test, a psychological test, a medical check-up, training or a uniform, or to book tickets and a hotel through an appointed agent with a promise of reimbursement.

What to do: Do not transfer anything. The Ministry of Manpower says legitimate recruitment does not charge applicants.

  • The interview is held in a hotel room, a private house or another closed place that is not an office, or the location keeps changing. An invitation to stay overnight, or any sexual demand, as a condition for being hired or for renewing a contract is also a warning sign.

What to do: Ask for the interview at the office or a public place, tell someone close to you where you are, and leave if you feel unsafe. Sexual demands can be reported to the police or the local manpower office (Disnaker). If you are in danger, call the police.

  • You are asked for a photo of your KTP or family card, a selfie holding your ID, your bank account number, an OTP code, a PIN or a password before any written job offer.

What to do: Do not send them. OJK says never to give an OTP, PIN or password to anyone, and identity data can be misused for illegal online loans.

  • The interview invitation arrives as an app file (APK) or a link that asks you to install an app.

What to do: Do not open it. OJK and Kominfo warn that fake APK files can read SMS messages with OTP codes and then drain bank accounts.

CNN Indonesia (official statement via media)

  • After the interview you are asked to hand over your original diploma or other original personal documents as a guarantee for the job.

What to do: Ministry of Manpower Circular M/5/HK.04.00/V/2025 bars employers from requiring or holding original diplomas and personal documents as a guarantee for the job. The only exception is a diploma or competency certificate from education or training paid for by the employer under a written employment agreement, and the employer must keep it safe and compensate you if it is damaged or lost. Otherwise, show them for checking, then take them home.

Frequently asked questions

Are these the questions a particular company will ask?

No. The KarirAman team wrote every question from interview patterns that are common across many fields. The questions you get may differ, so use this bank to practise telling real stories about your experience, not to memorise answers.

I was asked to pay for a test or a hotel before the interview. What should I do?

Do not pay. The Ministry of Manpower says legitimate recruitment never charges applicants. Check the invitation through company contacts you look up yourself, paste the invitation into the job checker, and report it if you have already transferred money.

Can I refuse to give an OTP code during an online interview?

Yes, and you should not give it. OJK says never to give an OTP code, PIN or password to anyone, including people who claim to be from an official body. A genuine job interview never needs such a code.
