How do you join the Indonesian police, and what do police officers do?

Indonesian National Police (Polri) officers maintain public security and order, enforce the law, and protect and serve the public. Daily duties depend on unit and rank: patrols, traffic control, taking reports at the SPKT, supporting investigations, or special duties in Brimob, the marine police or intelligence. Akpol and SIPSS graduates start as officers (IPDA), Bintara graduates as Bripda and Tamtama graduates as Bharada. Which education routes lead into Polri?

There are four entry routes into Polri. Akpol takes SMA/MA graduates aged 16 to 21, with three years of education, starting as IPDA. Bintara takes graduates from SMA up to degree level by specialism, starting as Bripda. Tamtama takes SMA/SMK graduates for Brimob and the marine police, starting as Bharada. SIPSS takes degree and postgraduate holders, starting as IPDA.

What are the stages of Polri selection?

  • The interview is held in a hotel room, a private house or another closed place that is not an office, or the location keeps changing. An invitation to stay overnight, or any sexual demand, as a condition for being hired or for renewing a contract is also a warning sign.
