Loan officers in Indonesia (AO, mantri, CMO): duties, requirements, pay and safe applying
Loan officers (account officers) find, assess and monitor borrowers at banks, rural banks and finance firms. Most ads ask for a diploma or degree.
Summary
- A loan officer (account officer, AO) finds borrowers, surveys their business and collateral, writes the credit analysis, then follows repayments until the loan is paid off.
- The Ministry of Manpower's SPARK 2025 report ranks credit and loans officers fourth among job sub-groups by vacancies posted on Karirhub in 2025.
- Indonesia's Banking Law, as amended by Law 4/2023, asks banks to assess a borrower's character, capacity, capital, collateral and business prospects before lending.
- Every SLIK request is logged with the employee who made it; the data may be used only for permitted purposes such as lending, and may not be given or sold to others.
- Being asked to pay to get hired, for example to a bank 'insider', or pressed to cover a borrower's arrears with your own money, is a warning sign.

What does a loan officer (account officer) do in Indonesia?
A loan officer (account officer, AO) lends money and makes sure it comes back. AOs find borrowers, survey their homes and businesses, check credit history in OJK's SLIK system, write the credit memo, arrange disbursement, then follow repayments and chase early arrears. OJK Regulation 18/POJK.03/2017, last amended by OJK Regulation 11/2024, requires commercial banks, BPRs, finance companies and pawnshops to report to SLIK, and every borrower-data request is logged with the employee who made it.
- Find prospective borrowers through visits, business communities, dealers or referrals from existing customers.
- Visit borrowers' homes and businesses to assess the business, income and collateral.
- Check a prospective borrower's credit history in OJK's SLIK system under the lender's procedures.
- Write the credit analysis memo and submit it to a manager or credit committee.
- Complete documents, the loan agreement and disbursement for approved loans.
- Run regular group meetings for borrowers in microloan programmes.
- Track repayments and contact borrowers who start to fall behind before handing them to collections.
- Record visits and payments in the lender's system and report progress against targets.
What do you need to become a loan officer in Indonesia?
Loan officer vacancies in Indonesia usually ask for a D3 diploma or bachelor's degree, often in economics, management or accounting, plus communication skills, a motorcycle licence and willingness to work in the field. It is not a licensed profession, but lenders are supervised by OJK. OJK's FAQ on Regulation 43/2024 says finance companies must ensure financing certificates, pawnshops must ensure collateral-appraisal certificates, and both must fund staff training.
What does a typical loan officer job description look like?

We wrote the description below ourselves from common advertising patterns; it is not a vacancy from any lender. Ministry of Manpower Circular M/6/HK.04/V/2025 bars employers from discriminating on any basis in recruitment. An age requirement is allowed only where the nature of the job genuinely affects ability and it does not remove the chance of work, and the same applies to workers with disabilities. How much does a loan officer earn in Indonesia?
KarirAman does not yet show a pay figure for loan officers because no data meets our standard: verified vacancies with enough samples, licensed data or an official pay scale. Loan officer pay usually combines a base salary with incentives tied to lending volume and on-time repayments. Government Regulation 36/2021 Articles 23 and 24 bar pay below the minimum wage for workers with less than one year of service.

Which education routes lead to loan officer jobs in Indonesia?
No specific degree is required to become a loan officer in Indonesia. Diplomas or degrees in economics, management, accounting or banking fit the analysis work best, but many lenders hire other majors and train them in house. For finance companies and pawnshops, OJK's FAQ on Regulation 43/2024 makes certification the lender's obligation. In Indonesia, work competency certificates are tested by certification bodies licensed by BNSP (Government Regulation 10/2018).
What is 5C credit analysis, and how do credit analysts differ from loan officers?
A credit analyst works in the office and assesses the file a loan officer brings in: financial statements, survey results, collateral and SLIK history, then advises whoever approves the loan. The elucidation of Banking Law Article 20A, inserted by Law 4/2023, asks banks to assess a borrower's character, capacity, capital, collateral and business prospects, known as the five Cs. A credit surveyor checks facts in the field, such as the address, business and financed vehicle.
What is a CMO at a finance company and how is it different?
A credit marketing officer (CMO) at a finance company, often called a leasing company in Indonesia, finds vehicle or goods finance customers through dealers and showrooms, helps with the application, then passes it to surveyors and analysts. OJK's FAQ on Regulation 43/2024 says finance companies must ensure financing and collection certificates. OJK Regulation 22/2023 Article 39 bars offering products through personal messages without the prospective customer's consent.
What are working conditions and rights like for loan officers?
Loan officers work to lending and repayment targets, often ride their own motorbike to customers and sometimes receive cash payments. Law 24/2011 Article 15 requires employers to register you with BPJS. Government Regulation 36/2021 Article 63 allows deductions for fines or damages only when the employment contract, company regulations or collective agreement provide for them, and deductions for renting company property such as a motorbike only under a written agreement.

What is bank sales (marketing bank) and how is it different from a loan officer?
"Marketing bank" is the Indonesian job-ad term for people who sell bank products. Funding sales staff find savings and deposit customers, while lending sales staff find prospective borrowers and pass their files to an account officer or analyst. People who sell credit cards and unsecured personal loans (KTA) door to door or in shopping centres are essentially field sales staff; read our field sales executive guide.
OJK Regulation 9/POJK.03/2016 lets commercial banks outsource support work that is low risk, needs no high banking competency and is not directly tied to decision-making. OJK Circular 11/SEOJK.03/2017 gives direct sales, telemarketing and collections as examples. That is why many bank sales posts are filled through outsourcing companies. Make sure the outsourcing company's name is on your contract: under Government Regulation 35/2021 Article 18, your employment relationship is with that outsourcing company under a written fixed-term (PKWT) or permanent (PKWTT) contract, and it is responsible for your pay and protection.
How do you check a lender's licence before you apply?
Checking a lender's licence takes a few minutes and protects you from fake vacancies and illegal lending apps.
- Ask for the lender's legal entity name and match it with its official website and accounts.
- Contact Kontak OJK 157 to confirm that the bank, BPR, finance company, pawnshop or microfinance institution is licensed. Under Law 4/2023, every microfinance institution needs an OJK business licence before operating; one already operating without a licence that takes no deposits must register with the regency or city government as an incubation institution and may not take deposits.
- For online lenders, match the provider's name against the licensed-provider directory (LPBBTI) on the OJK website.
- Check the company name on AHU Online.
- Turn down offers from any lender you cannot find in an official list. Report an illegal lender, or an offer that misuses a financial institution's name, to Kontak OJK 157. If you have already transferred money, report it to IASC straight away so the scammer's account can be blocked.

What does a loan officer's career path look like?
A common path runs from junior AO or mantri to senior AO handling larger loans, then unit head, credit supervisor or branch manager. Some move into credit analysis, risk management or collections; late-stage collection is covered in our debt collector guide. Reading small-business financial statements well and keeping repayments on track are what usually earn promotion.
What interview questions might you be asked for loan officer jobs?
Interview questions for loan officer jobs often cover accuracy with figures, the accounting software or spreadsheets you use, handling discrepancies, what you would do if asked to change figures, and reporting deadlines. Each example below comes with why it is asked and how to answer it. The Ministry of Manpower warns that an instant chat interview without formal confirmation is one sign of a fake job.

Which accounting software or spreadsheets have you used?
Why they ask: The company wants to know how quickly you can work with its systems.
How to answer: Name the programs and tasks, such as journals, bank reconciliations or summary tables. If you have not used their system, explain how you learn a new one.

Which job scams target loan officers in Indonesia?
The most common trick is fake recruitment that borrows the name of a state-owned bank, microfinance institution or finance company, then asks for a selection or training fee or a payment to a bank 'insider'. In June 2025, OJK's Satgas PASTI task force warned about fraud that copies the names, websites and social media accounts of licensed financial institutions. Also watch for marketing jobs at illegal lending apps and pressure to cover arrears yourself.

Which careers are similar?
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between an account officer, a mantri, a CMO and a credit analyst?
All four work in the same lending chain. An account officer (AO) finds and supports borrowers and follows their repayments. Mantri is the name used for microloan officers at small units, with similar duties. A credit marketing officer (CMO) finds vehicle or goods finance customers for a finance company, usually through dealers. A credit analyst works in the office, assesses files and recommends whether to approve.
Do loan officers have to cover borrowers' missed instalments?
No. Covering arrears with your own money shifts onto you a risk the lender should carry. Government Regulation 36/2021 Article 63 allows deductions for fines or damages only when the employment contract, company regulations or a collective agreement provide for them, and deductions for renting company property only under a written agreement. If a manager pushes you to cover arrears or cuts your pay without a written basis, keep the evidence and report it to compliance or the local manpower office.
How can I check that a lender I am applying to is licensed by OJK?
Ask for the lender's legal entity name, then contact Kontak OJK 157, which OJK says can be used to check legality. For online lenders, match the name against the licensed-provider directory on the OJK website; as of 31 July 2026, OJK listed 94 licensed providers. Every microfinance institution (LKM) needs an OJK business licence before operating; one already operating without a licence that takes no deposits must register with the regency or city government as an incubation LKM and may not take deposits.
Are marketing jobs for online lending apps safe?
Only if the lender is licensed by OJK. Indonesia's Satgas PASTI task force shut down 951 illegal online lending entities from January to March 2026 and warned that illegal loans risk misuse of personal data and abusive collection. Check the lender against the OJK directory before you sign anything, and do not work for an app that is not listed there.
May a loan officer collect from borrowers outside working hours or through their family?
No. When a borrower starts to fall behind, a loan officer usually sends reminders and discusses a payment schedule with the borrower, not with their family. OJK Regulation 22/2023 Article 62 also covers this early-stage collection: it must not target anyone other than the consumer and may happen only on the permitted days and hours, unless the consumer agrees. If arrears continue, the file usually goes to collections; the detailed rules are in our debt collector guide.
Do I have to pay for my own certification as a loan officer or CMO?
Not to get hired: Indonesia's Ministry of Manpower says a recruitment fee is almost certainly a scam, so turn down any vacancy that makes you pay for training or certification first. At finance and pawnshop companies, OJK's FAQ on Regulation 43/2024 requires the lender to provide a staff training fund that covers certification; for provincial and district pawnshops the duty starts in financial year 2027. At banks and BPRs, ask in writing who pays for certification before you sign a contract.
