Production planners (PPIC staff) in Indonesia: duties, requirements, pay and safe applying

PPIC (production planning and inventory control) staff plan production and material stock. Most ads ask for a diploma or degree in industrial engineering.

Summary

Low scam risk
  • PPIC staff schedule production, work out material requirements and control stock; the job needs no professional licence.
  • Indonesia's national competency standard for manufacturing systems (Kepmenaker 128/2015) has units on production scheduling, material requirements planning and inventory control.
  • Vacancies usually ask for a D3 or bachelor's degree in industrial engineering or management, strong Excel skills and ERP experience.
  • Pay may not be below the minimum wage (Government Regulation 36/2021), except in micro and small businesses; many PPIC jobs are in industrial estates, so check the local UMK.
  • Paying a broker for a factory job is brokering (percaloan) that officials say must be stamped out; the Ministry of Manpower says a recruitment fee is almost certainly a scam.

What does PPIC mean, and what does PPIC staff do in Indonesia?

PPIC (production planning and inventory control) staff turn orders and sales plans into production schedules, work out material needs, monitor stocks of raw materials, work in progress and finished goods, and adjust plans when a machine breaks down or an order changes. Indonesia's national competency standard for manufacturing systems (Kepmenaker 128/2015) has units on production scheduling, material requirements planning and inventory control.

  • Draw up daily, weekly and monthly production schedules from orders and sales plans.
  • Work out material and component requirements (MRP) and raise purchase requests.
  • Monitor stocks of raw materials, work in progress and finished goods in the ERP system.
  • Check machine and labour capacity so production targets are realistic.
  • Adjust plans when a machine breaks down, materials arrive late or an urgent order comes in.
  • Coordinate with production, warehouse, purchasing, quality control and shipping.
  • Plan delivery schedules so orders are ready by the date promised to customers.
  • Report on production output, stock turnover and stock discrepancies.

What do you need to become PPIC staff in Indonesia?

PPIC staff need no professional licence. Vacancies usually ask for a D3 or bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, management or a related field, strong Excel skills, ERP experience and care with numbers. As a competence reference, the national standard for manufacturing systems (Kepmenaker 128/2015) has units on analysing production capacity, scheduling production and controlling inventory. Factory experience is a plus.

What does a typical PPIC job description look like?

PPIC vacancies in Indonesia usually ask for a D3 or bachelor's graduate in industrial engineering or management who is strong in Excel and ERP systems, can read sales plans, and is ready to coordinate with production, warehouse and purchasing. We wrote the description below ourselves from common advertising patterns. It is not a vacancy from any company, so there is no apply button. Age, gender or appearance requirements without a job reason are not normal.

General example, not a vacancy

We wrote this description ourselves from what job ads usually ask for. It is not a vacancy from any company.

Commonly requested requirements

  • A D3 or bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, management or a related field; PPIC admin posts sometimes accept SMK graduates.
  • Strong Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables and data handling.
  • Experience with an ERP system or inventory software.
  • Careful with numbers and able to work to tight deadlines.
  • Factory experience, for example in manufacturing or garments, is a plus.

How much does a production planner (PPIC staff) earn in Indonesia?

KarirAman has no PPIC pay data that meets our standard yet, so the table below shows only the national BPS wage reference and the minimum-wage floor. Government Regulation 36/2021 Article 23 bars employers from paying below the minimum wage, which applies to workers with less than one year of service, except in micro and small businesses, which set pay by agreement (Article 36). Many PPIC jobs are in industrial estates, so check the local UMK.

Which education route leads to a PPIC job in Indonesia?

The most common route is a D3 or bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, where production planning and control is part of the course; management or logistics graduates are also often hired. SMK graduates can start as production or warehouse admin and move up. A competency certificate from a BNSP-licensed body can add value where a suitable scheme exists, and you can check that it is genuine through BNSP's certificate check.

How is PPIC different from warehouse admin, purchasing and logistics?

PPIC staff plan when goods are made, how much material is needed and what stock level is safe. Warehouse admins record goods in and out, purchasing staff buy materials from suppliers, and logistics staff arrange shipping. All four use the same data in the ERP system, so many people move between these roles. The national standard for manufacturing systems (Kepmenaker 136/2016) also has a unit on planning delivery targets as part of planning.

What does PPIC work look like in a garment factory?

In a garment factory, PPIC staff work out fabric and trim needs for each order, track material arrivals, set daily targets for each sewing line and chase buyers' shipping dates. The national garment competency standard (Kepmenaker 177/2020) has units on material inventory analysis, material purchase planning, production target calculation and distributing materials according to the production plan. The work is closely tied to sewing operators, cutting and quality control.

What does a PPIC career path look like?

PPIC staff usually start as PPIC admin or planning staff, then move up to PPIC supervisor, leading planning for one plant. The next steps are supply chain planning roles, such as demand planner or material planner at head office, or PPIC manager. Advanced Excel, ERP knowledge and data analysis speed up progress. Management trainee programmes at manufacturers also often place industrial engineering graduates in PPIC.

How can you apply safely for PPIC jobs in industrial estates?

  1. Find the same vacancy on the company's official careers site or on Karirhub.
  2. Check the company name through the AHU company profile search, and make sure test invitations come from a company email domain.
  3. Refuse insiders or brokers who ask for "titipan" money, uniform money or training fees.
  4. Bring copies of your diploma and certificates; originals only need to be shown.
  5. When you get an offer, ask for a written employment agreement that states the contract type (PKWT or PKWTT), pay, hours and overtime rules.
  6. Make sure you are registered with BPJS; employers must register their workers under Law 24/2011 Article 15.

Factory job brokering is covered in full on our factory job brokers page.

Which skills are most often tested for PPIC jobs?

PPIC tests usually involve calculation rather than memorisation. Practise these before a test:

  • Working out material needs from a bill of materials and order quantities.
  • Drawing up a simple production schedule with limited machine capacity.
  • Calculating safety stock and reorder points.
  • Handling data in Excel with lookup formulas and pivot tables.

The units in the national standard for manufacturing systems (Kepmenaker 128/2015), such as material requirements planning, production scheduling and inventory control, can serve as your study list.

What interview questions might you be asked for production planner jobs?

Interview questions for production planner jobs often cover the office software you use, accuracy with data, handling many requests at once, and keeping documents confidential. Each example below comes with why it is asked and how to answer it. The Ministry of Manpower warns that an instant chat interview without formal confirmation is one sign of a fake job.

General examples written by KarirAman, not questions from any particular company. How to practise: read the question, answer it out loud, then open the guidance to compare.

Questions for this field

Which office software do you know well, and what do you use it for?

Why they ask: Most administrative work uses spreadsheets, word processing and e-mail every day.

How to answer: Name the software and the real tasks you did with it, such as data summaries, letters or reports. Be honest about your level and offer a short test if useful.

How do you make sure the data you enter is correct?

Why they ask: One data error can upset payments, stock or schedules.

How to answer: Explain your habits: matching against the source document, using a checklist or simple formulas, and checking again before sending. Give one example of an error you caught.

How do you handle several requests from different people at once?

Why they ask: Administrative staff often serve several departments with different deadlines.

How to answer: Describe how you order tasks by deadline and impact, keep a list, and ask your supervisor to set priorities when requests clash.

How do you keep documents and other people's personal data confidential?

Why they ask: Administrative roles hold employee, customer or patient data that must not leak.

How to answer: Give concrete steps: opening data only when needed, locking your screen, never sending work documents through personal chat, and following company rules on storing files.

Tell me about a regular report or summary you prepared.

Why they ask: Regular reports show care and consistency.

How to answer: Say what the report was, how often you made it, the tools you used, who relied on it and any improvement you suggested.

Common questions that also come up (12 questions)
  • Tell me about yourself.

Answer in about a minute: where you are now in work or study, two experiences that matter for this job, then why you applied. Personal matters such as family status are not needed.

  • Why did you apply to this company?

Mention one or two real things you learned from the company's official website, such as its business or services, and link them to your skills.

  • Why are you interested in this role?

Pick two tasks from the job advert, describe similar things you have done, and say which part you most want to grow in.

  • What are your strengths?

Name one or two strengths and give short proof: the situation, what you did and the result.

  • What is your weakness?

Choose a real weakness that is not central to the job, then explain what you are doing to improve it.

  • Tell me about a problem at work or school that you solved.

Use the STAR pattern: Situation, Task, Action, Result. Focus on what you yourself did and what you learned.

  • How do you work in a team, including when people disagree?

Give a real example of listening, explaining your view politely and finding a solution everyone accepted.

  • How do you handle pressure or tight deadlines?

Explain how you set priorities, such as a task list or checking with your supervisor, and give one example of the outcome.

  • Where do you see yourself in two or three years?

Mention the skills you want to master and the responsibility you hope to take on, without promising things you cannot know.

  • What salary do you expect?

First research the pay range for the role and the local minimum wage where you would work. Give a range, then ask whether the figure is gross or net and which allowances apply.

  • When can you start?

Give a realistic date. If you are still employed, mention the notice period in your current contract so you do not break it.

  • Do you have any questions for us?

Ask about the contract type, working hours, base pay and allowances, the next selection step and when results are announced. Ask for the offer in writing.

Warning signs in interviews (6)
  • The interview happens only by WhatsApp or Telegram chat with no formal invitation, or you are pushed to be interviewed on the spot.

What to do: Ask for a written invitation from a company-domain e-mail address, then match the contact with the official website you look up yourself.

  • The interview is held in a hotel room, a private house or another closed place that is not an office, or the location keeps changing. An invitation to stay overnight, or any sexual demand, as a condition for being hired or for renewing a contract is also a warning sign.

What to do: Ask for the interview at the office or a public place, tell someone close to you where you are, and leave if you feel unsafe. Sexual demands can be reported to the police or the local manpower office (Disnaker). If you are in danger, call the police.

  • The interview invitation arrives as an app file (APK) or a link that asks you to install an app.

What to do: Do not open it. OJK and Kominfo warn that fake APK files can read SMS messages with OTP codes and then drain bank accounts.

CNN Indonesia (official statement via media)

  • After the interview you are asked to hand over your original diploma or other original personal documents as a guarantee for the job.

What to do: Ministry of Manpower Circular M/5/HK.04.00/V/2025 bars employers from requiring or holding original diplomas and personal documents as a guarantee for the job. The only exception is a diploma or competency certificate from education or training paid for by the employer under a written employment agreement, and the employer must keep it safe and compensate you if it is damaged or lost. Otherwise, show them for checking, then take them home.

Which job scams target PPIC and factory office applicants?

PPIC-specific scam risk is low, but factory applicants in industrial estates are often offered paid 'titipan' placements. Indonesia's Deputy Minister of Manpower said alleged job brokering in Karawang must be stamped out, and in 2026 the Serang regency task force on illegal levies checked recruitment levies at labour-intensive factories. The Ministry of Manpower says a recruitment fee is almost certainly a scam. Also watch for employers who hold diplomas.

Frequently asked questions

Can a vocational school (SMK) graduate become PPIC staff?

Most PPIC ads ask for a D3 or bachelor's degree, but SMK graduates often start as production admin, warehouse admin or operators and learn planning on the job. The national competency standard for manufacturing systems (Kepmenaker 128/2015) has units on production scheduling and inventory control that you can use as a checklist of skills to build. Studying part-time while working also opens the way to PPIC posts.

Are PPIC staff entitled to overtime pay in Indonesia?

In principle, yes. Government Regulation 35/2021 Article 26 limits overtime to 4 hours a day and 18 hours a week, and Article 27 requires overtime to be paid. The only exception is for certain job grades: workers responsible as thinkers, planners, executors and/or controllers of how the company is run, whose hours cannot be limited and who earn more, and it must be written into the employment agreement, company regulation or collective agreement. If it is not, overtime pay is still owed, so staff-level PPIC workers are normally entitled to it.

Can someone ask me for money to get me into a factory job?

No. Indonesia's Deputy Minister of Manpower said alleged job brokering in Karawang must be stamped out and urged companies to announce recruitment openly. In 2026 the Serang regency task force on illegal levies in employment also checked recruitment levies at labour-intensive factories. Refuse paid 'titipan' offers and report them to the local manpower office (Disnaker).

Can a fixed-term (PKWT) contract for PPIC staff include probation?

No. Law 13/2003 Article 58, as amended by Law 6/2023, says a fixed-term employment agreement may not require a probation period. If it does, the probation is void and your service still counts. Probation is allowed only for permanent (PKWTT) staff.

Which certificates help when applying for PPIC jobs?

No certificate is required for PPIC staff. A competency certificate from a BNSP-licensed certification body can add value where a scheme matches the national standards for manufacturing systems or garments. Before paying for an assessment, check that certificates from that body can be found through the certificate check on the BNSP website.
