A personal assistant (PA) in Indonesia helps one person run their day: managing the schedule, booking travel, handling personal and household errands, answering messages, preparing documents and sometimes running the employer's business errands. Employers are usually business owners or executives, artists or influencers, or families. Indonesia's professional administration standard (Decree 109/2024) includes units that PAs also use, such as managing an executive's schedule and arranging business travel. An executive assistant is similar but mostly supports one executive's business work.

How much does a personal assistant earn in Indonesia?

If a company or business employs you, a PA's pay must be at least the provincial or regency/city minimum wage: PP 36/2021 Article 23(3) bans paying below the minimum wage, which applies to service of under one year (Article 24(1)), except in micro and small businesses, which set wages by agreement (Article 36). Which education routes lead to personal assistant work in Indonesia?

There is no dedicated education route to becoming a personal assistant. Many PAs start from a D3 diploma in secretarial studies or office administration, any bachelor's degree, or experience as an administrative assistant. Indonesia's professional administration standard (Decree 109/2024), the reference for training and certification in this field, includes relevant units such as managing an executive's schedule, arranging travel and applying professional ethics. English and a driving licence often help.

How is a personal assistant different from an executive assistant?

An executive assistant works inside a company for the directors or senior managers: managing the directors' agenda, preparing meetings and presentations, and coordinating other secretaries. What does a fair personal assistant job offer look like?

You can recognise a fair personal assistant offer in Indonesia by how clear it is. Before you start, make sure these points are in writing:

  1. An employer you can check: a company, a business, an artist's management, or the family's identity and home address.
  2. A written employment contract. For a fixed-term contract, PP 35/2021 Article 13 requires at least the company name, the job, the workplace, the amount and method of pay, and the contract period.
  3. Working hours, days off, overtime rules and who pays for travel or accommodation.
  4. Registration with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan (employment) and BPJS Kesehatan (health).
  5. You keep your original documents. Minister of Manpower Circular M/5/HK.04.00/V/2025 bans employers from holding diplomas and personal documents as security.

An offer that mixes the job with a personal relationship, for example payment to keep the employer company outside your duties, is not assistant work. Law 12/2022 Article 12 treats taking advantage of a person's dependence or helplessness for sexual purposes as sexual exploitation.

  • The interview is held in a hotel room, a private house or another closed place that is not an office, or the location keeps changing. An invitation to stay overnight, or any sexual demand, as a condition for being hired or for renewing a contract is also a warning sign.

Which job scams target personal assistant applicants in Indonesia?

We have not found official data or cases aimed specifically at personal assistant vacancies. Warning signs in PA ads from private people, based on Ministry of Manpower guidance and police cases in other jobs: no business name or address, gender or appearance requirements, requests for private photos, invitations to live in and chat-only interviews. In May 2026 Makassar police arrested a man who posted a fake babysitter vacancy and held and assaulted the applicant in a rented house.

Does Indonesia's domestic workers law apply to personal assistants?

It can. Law 2/2026 Article 1 defines a domestic worker (PRT) as someone who works for an individual or household employer doing household work for a wage, and Article 10 lists tasks such as driving, childcare and looking after the house. If a family employs you mainly for tasks like these, the rights in Law 2/2026 probably apply. If a company employs you, general labour rules apply. Ask the local manpower office (Disnaker) if you are unsure.

Can a PA job ad be for women only or ask for a full-body photo?

Gender or appearance requirements unrelated to the job are discrimination banned by Minister of Manpower Circular M/6/HK.04/V/2025 and contrary to Law 13/2003 Article 5. A request for full-body or private photos is also a warning sign: in a case involving another job, Cimahi police arrested a fake recruiter in 2020 who asked women applicants to send nude photos.
